About IAASS

Globe Africa-Asia

The Institute of Asian and African Studies of Sahel (IAASS) is an interdisciplinary research center based in Dakar, Senegal, founded in June 2018.


Our Mission

IAASS is dedicated to in-depth study of relations between Africa and Asia, with particular emphasis on Sino-African dynamics. Our goal is to produce rigorous and independent research that informs public policy and enriches academic debate.

Economic Relations

Analysis of Chinese investments in Africa, bilateral trade, and development financing

Study of diplomatic relations, China-Africa forums, and regional governance

Research on migration, Asian diasporas in Africa, and intercultural dialogue

Academic Leadership

The Institute is led by:

Dr. Ibrahima Niang – Executive Director, Sociologist at Cheikh Anta Diop University of Dakar (UCAD)

Dr. Han Ji (计晗) – Principal Researcher, Specialist in Sino-African Studies
